A Message from President Lois Lehman

Welcome to the TSRT web-site.  You will find something for everyone (RTs, Imaging Specialists, Radiation Therapists, Educators, and Students) as you explore through all the links. To become an active member, student member, or corporate member of TSRT, click on the link “Join TSRT”.

At the 2010 Annual Meeting last March, I became the 2010-2011 President of TSRT.  I want to thank the TSRT membership for this wonderful honor.  I have had the great pleasure of working with and training under a superb mentor – Charles Washington.  In addition, I would also like to thank Cedric Jolivet, Lisa Ganus, Charles Merrifield, and Debra Kendall for being on the 2009 TSRT board.   It has been marvelous working with such professionals who have similar goals – do what is best for TSRT members, TSRT, Texas radiographers, therapists, educators, and students.  Below are my goals.

Goal 1 - Education:    I would like to encourage all imaging specialists and therapists to advance their knowledge, education, and experience.  My RT education was at a hospital based program in Iowa.  If I knew then what I know now; I would have gone to college to obtain a Bachelor degree.  This would have given me the flexibility and confidence to seek opportunities earlier - such as management, education, and/or sales.  I say to every RT, therapist, educator, and student - achieve advance certificates with ARRT and enroll in a college/university to attain a Bachelor, Master, and/or Ph.D. degree.

Goal 2 - Flexibility:  TSRT has expanded their use of email to keep members informed of legislative issues, bylaw changes, 2010 Election of Officers, and TSRT announcements.  For the 2010 Annual Meeting, TSRT sent out invitations to speakers, received speaker/vendor paperwork, sent paperwork to ASRT, received applications for Student Competitions, communicated with judges, and created the Annual Meeting speaker’s schedule-all by email and/or phone calls.   TSRT continues to seek more options using electronic communication.  TSRT new Web-site has PayPal so members can pay membership fees or register for the TSRT Annual Meeting on-line.

Goal 3 - Communication: The TSRT Web-site is our central method for members and non-member to find information concerning TSRT.  Members/non members can contact TSRT via email, mail, phone, or fax.  If anyone wants to contact me directly, they may via my email address loistsrt@aol.com or my cell phone voice mail (214-289-3288).

TSRT needs more members.  It is our collective voices that influence legislators and other professional organizations.  We need ideas and energy to help RTs and therapists to understand the importance of joining their professional societies.  TSRT has asked Cedric Jolivet to form a committee and come up with ideas to encourage RTs, educators, and students to join TSRT.

Goal 4- Survey:  Members need to feel that TSRT is listening to them.  If you have thoughts, plans, ideas on this subject, please contact me now.  Also, I plan to do a state-wide survey asking RTs and therapists what they want and expect from TSRT.  We hope to mail and e-mail notices to all members and non-members to complete this survey.   Help us to help you.

Finally:  Students are our future co-workers, managers, educators, and leaders.  I would like to encourage students to work with our TSRT officers and board members.

Sincerely yours,

Lois Lehman, R.T. (R) (CT)

2010-2010 President of TSRT
