Welcome to the TSRT 2008 Spring Tex-Rays!

This electronic mail out is a free service provided to members by the TSRT Board and Officers.  It is published through the TSRT Executive Office.  The goal is to provide valuable information to our membership.  Your input regarding topics, questions and policies is encouraged.  If you have comments, please contact us at tsrt@runbox.com.

TSRT Board Chair Report- Stephanie Johnston

Our annual conference was a success.  We had a wonderful turn out and the weather was beautiful.  It is always nice to gather and see familiar faces and catch up on what’s going on in our profession.  Of course, sitting through the presentations and learning something new is always enjoyable, too.  The student sections were full and there was plenty for them to do.  We had many wonderful comments and suggestions.

Although 2008 is a non-legislative year, we have to keep those legislative issues burning.  Cedric’s trip to RT in DC helped rekindle the need to get the CARE bill passed.  The changes that can come about with the passage of the CARE legislation will make a significant impact on the imaging profession in Texas. It is important to contact both the U.S. senators and representatives.  There is a version of the bill in both branches.  For information on the bills, please check www.tsrt.info or www.asrt.org.  Your support is needed to get this legislation passed.

And lastly, TSRT needs members.  We cannot continue without membership support.  There are almost 20,000 technologist is Texas.  The Texas Society of Radiologic Technologists is the professional society of this state.  We are the Texas affiliate society of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.  We must gather the professionals that we work with and band together for the common cause of our profession.  We have to get this legislation passed.  This board cannot accomplish anything legislatively and represent 2000 technologist.  We need to represent 20,000.  Ask you co-workers if they are members, if not give them an application.  Get the word out.  We have to unite. We CARE in Texas!   If we don’t, no one else will.

President Elect Report – Cedric Jolivet

Summer Board Report, June 2007

  1. I have been collecting nominations for next year.
  2. I have asked the Third Vice President to post a call for 2008/2009 office nominations.
  3. Concerning Legislative Committee: no meeting has been held.  I have done seminars and small discussions with technologist in southeast Texas prior to May 30 were I answered questions and promoted HB3414.  The majority states to keep up efforts.

First Vice President Report – Marsha Cox

I would like to take a moment to talk to you about a couple of things that will interest your membership.

First, our state society has added a Job network to the TSRT website.  This resource is available to both job seekers and employers.  The TSRT Job Net link (http://jobtarget.com/home/index.cfm) provides the technologist with resume postings, viewing job postings, and management of on-line applications.  The link also offers employers the opportunity to post job listings to the TSRT site for a large number of potential applicants.  There is a competitive fee to the employer for this service.  But, it is a free benefit for technologists seeking job opportunities.  Explore the details of how it works and check back often for new postings.

Second, the students in the Texas radiology schools are our future.  Our profession needs and desires the technologists in our state to be proactive in the affairs of our profession and this includes the students.  Their contributions to the profession of radiology will be greater through our mentoring.  Each affiliate has at least one radiology school in their respective areas.  I challenge each affiliate to start a mentoring program with that school or if you have a mentor program in place increase your association with the students and the school.  The benefits will be an increase in the professional foundation for your region and membership.  Please send email to me via tsrt@runbox.com to let me know how this is working for you.  We should work together to make the Texas Society of Radiologic Technologists stronger, thus making the technologists of Texas a strong voice in the profession of radiology.

Second Vice President Report – Janeen Johnson

This year’s annual conference was well attended by students.  I anticipate that attendance for next year conference will double since we will be returning to South Padre Island.  I am currently working on updating the information on the student competitions.  In addition to the Student Bee, Award of Merit, Scientific Display, and Student Leadership Competitions, students can participate in a Talent Show.  Also, I am working on scheduling speakers for student lectures and creating a Panel of Radiologic Technologists that will give insight to the students about their chosen career paths.  There has also been conversation about the formation of student internships at the annual conference.

Third Vice President Report – Andre Guillory

Executive Office Report – Lisa Ganus

TSRT has 2327 Membership ID Numbers on file.  920 of these are expired.  Therefore, TSRT currently has 1407 active, voting members.  Membership renewals are slowly coming in.  We have started the conversion of changing memberships to all renew on the first of September of each year to follow our fiscal budget year.  When renewal notices are mailed and processed, members will receive a membership letter with their card.  We hope this transition goes smoothly.

The 2008 Annual Meeting is being planned at this time.  We will be returning to South Padre Island.  Mark your calendars with the following dates:  March 27 – 29, 2008.  16 CEU will be offered.

Affiliate Charter Renewals are due back into the Executive Office.  We have received four renewals to date.

CERTT activities have been slow during the summer months.  Most of our affiliate societies do not hold educational meetings during this time of year.  Please check the Calendar of Events on the website to see where and when the next CEU Meeting is being held in your area.

TSRT Officer Elections are just around the corner.  We have not received any names to forward to the President Elect.  If you know someone who is interested in serving the organization, please contact us, so that individual can be confirmed.

There have been no proposed bylaw amendments submitted in to the office for the board to consider presenting to the membership for approval.
